The Business of Being Born
01.29.2008
Gentle Choices is proud to sponsor the screening of the documentary film, The Business of Being Born, directed by Ricki Lake. After a disappointing birth of her first child, Ricki Lake recruited film maker, Abby Epstein to make a film about how American women give birth. The film poses the very important question of whether birth is a natural life process or a catastrophic medical emergency. The film made its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival where it received a standing ovation. The film puts the issue of every woman's right to birth safely and humanely in the much needed spotlight.
In addition to the film, there will be a booksigning with the author, Jennifer Block, writer of Pushed: The Painful Truth About Childbirth and Modern Maternity Care, a chilling expose of medically-managed birth in the United States.
This is a very special one time event, coming to Lafayette on January 29, 2008. Doors open at the Bayou Bijou Theater (on UL's Campus in the Student Union) at 6:30 where you can meet author Jennifer Block and purchase an autographed copy of her book. Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased in advance here at Gentle Choices Birth Center.
